NRPA’s Certified Park and Recreation
Professional (CPRP) certification is one of the most
sought-after certifications in the park and
recreation profession. According to Recreation
Management magazine’s 2008 Salary Survey of more
than 2000 individuals in the field, of those people
who plan to seek new certifications, the most (40%)
think they should become CPRPs.
For people now in the field, the
CPRP certification tells your peers and your
employer that you have met the certification’s high
standards of education, expertise and experience. In
a phrase, you are a committed professional! Many
park and recreation agencies recommend or require
CPRP certification when hiring for certain
positions.
For students and recent graduates,
the certification tells prospective employers that,
in addition to your new degree, you have been tested
on a wide range of practical knowledge that will
allow you to “hit the ground running” as you enter
the profession.
Renewal of Your CPRP
After two years, your certification must be
renewed. Renewal is simple: just accrue 2.0
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) during your
certification period and submit them with your
renewal application to the appropriate office.
If you are currently certified through a state
affiliate, then you must renew through that state
affiliate; please check the list here to see if
you should renew through a state. If you are
certified through NRPA directly, then you can
download your renewal form below.

(Please note for CEU Equivalency petition:
Petition forms submitted for any
programs that have already taken place must be
petitioned within 30 days following the program.
(there also is a fee to get approval for these CEU's)
The program allows individuals who
are certified as a CPRP with the NRPA office to
petition for acceptance of continuing education
unit equivalency for courses, institutes, and
workshops that do not offer CEUs or college
credits. When awarded, CEU equivalents are not
actual CEUs and are good only for maintaining CPRP
certification.
