Job Description
Under the supervision of the Recreation & Community Enrichment Director, the intern will be responsible for assisting with the day to day operation of the department. The recreation division provides leisure service programs which include adult fitness, youth sports, arts & crafts, dance, youth enrichment and special events. The specific duties and areas of professional growth and development will be determined with each intern in order to maximize the skills necessary and desired for their specific internship. The summer intern must be able to work independently and provide warm and inviting atmosphere for participants and community.

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned. Recreation:

  • Assist with baseball/softball equipment pick up (One week night early evening)•Visit baseball/softball games, take pictures (Week night early evening)
  • Spend a day (or half) at our summer day camp
  • Attend Special Events (Fri-Yay!, Friday Flicks, Brews & Bites), help with set up and entertainment
  • Schedule Facebook posts and set up event page for a movie night
  • Email reminders to parents regarding programs
  • Email program surveys
  • Marketing
  • Assist with coach packets and equipment bags (softball, soccer, football)
  • Develop and present a program to be ran
  • Shadow Farmers Market Manager for one market
  • Contact point for leagues and some instructors

General:

  • Represent the Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources Department in a positive way by completing tasks in an efficient manner at all times and to the best of his/her ability. This is a position of public service, with the public observing his/her performance at all times.
  • Follow all Parks, Recreation & Natural Resource Department policies and procedures.
  • Return all keys and any equipment before his/her final check is issued.
  • Any other related tasks as directed by the Recreation & Community Enrichment Director

Qualifications

  • Ability to demonstrate courtesy and tact when communicating with the public.
  • Outgoing personality with a strong desire to provide great customer service.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in an organized and timely manner.
  • Ability to arrive and leave work on time, as scheduled.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend and kneel for extended periods and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Recreation Supervisor via verbal and written reports.
  • Flexibility in scheduling.
  • Pursuing a degree in Parks, Recreation or a related field.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Average Hours/Week: The general office working hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Fridays. The parks and recreation staff works a wide variety of hours. It can be expected that you will work some weekends and evenings. Interns will receive a schedule of hours from the supervisors. 300-600 hours of work desired.

Length of Position: This position is seasonal for the months of mid-May or early June to mid to late August.

Salary/Salary Range
$7.25 - $10.00 per/hr
