Job Description
Under the guidance of the Recreation Director, Recreation Supervisor and Park and Recreation Board, the Pool Manager is responsible for staffing and ongoing operations at Sunset Pool. (Maintenance and most chemical testing done by DPW Dept.)

Responsibilities include but not limited to: hiring staff, training and supervision seasonal employees. This includes: Assistant Manager, Head Guards, Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Building Staff (front desk, concessions)

Typical Physical Demands: Physical and mental ability to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively; Physical ability to see, hear, and communicate clearly; Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.

Typical Working Conditions: April– May Flexible hours as needed for preparation of summer season. June – August 40 Hours a week, some weekends and evenings. Must schedule all staff to cover the supervision and operations of Sunset Pool. Must be available for pool related problems/emergencies when needed.


  • Responsible for supervision, operations of programming at pool.
  • Develops, supervises, and schedules all aquatic related training.
  • Schedules swim lessons.
  • Performs lifeguard duties as required.
  • Maintains accurate records, statistics, and reports for control and evaluation of all programs.
  • Purchases and maintains all program equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures and enforces all facility, rules, and regulations.
  • Monitors, updates, and maintains accurate record of staff certifications.
  • Establish and monitor risk management policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Responds to member and community inquiries and complaints on a timely basis.
  • Maintains a cooperative working relationship with all staff and members.
  • Maintain clean and safe pool deck at all times.
  • Demonstrates values of caring, honesty, and respect at all times. Reports to Rec Director with weekly updates or as needed help.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Personal Qualities:

  • Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • The ability to instruct, assign, supervise, and evaluate lifeguarding staff of their duties.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of facilities rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Leadership qualities and customer service skills. 


  • Current CPR/AED/FA certification
  • American Red Cross Life guarding Instructor (preferred)
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (preferred)
  • Previous experience as a lifeguard, head guard and or leadership role (Current CPO or AFO or obtain (preferred))

Salary/Salary Range
Seasonal (Mid May-August) Hourly $16.98
