2023 WPRA Conference Student Scholarship Application

Please review the selection criteria below used to determine award of Student Grants and Conference Scholarships. Then proceed to the online form at the bottom of the page to submit your application. It is recommended to have all your support materials in PDF form and ready to upload to make the application process as easy as possible.

Required:

  1. Currently a registered student member of WPRA (for the current year that the conference is being held).
  2. Copy of an official transcript showing that the applicant is currently enrolled in a park, recreation, natural resource, therapeutic recreation or related curriculum and must carry a minimum of 6 credits at the time of the application.
  3. Letter of recommendation from a faculty member or a park and recreation professional.
  4. You MUST register for the conference online on the WPRA website. (Be sure to be logged into your WPRA account.) Please select the 'invoice me" option when registering, and then forward your invoice to WPRA Foundation Secretary Holly Glainyk: [email protected]. Upon approval of your scholarship application, your registration fee will then be paid for by the WPRA Foundation.
  5. Student 3-Day Scholarships include Wednesday lunch and Thursday dinner, but must be ordered on the registration form. No other meals are provided and if you do not mark the meal then a ticket is not provided.
  6. Approved Student Scholarship Recipients are eligible to apply for Lodging Reimbursement up to $50 per person after attending the Conference (see details below).  

Additional Criteria (1-5 points awarded with 5 being the highest):

  1. Academic performance – 2.5-2.9 GPA – 2 points, 3.0 or higher – 3 points.
  2. Applicable volunteer or paid work.
  3. Written summary for participation: reason, presentation, organization, clarity and writing skills.

Students must meet the requirements and have a minimum score of 4 points to be considered for a WPRA Student Grant or Conference Scholarship. Grants and scholarships will be awarded based on availability of funds from the WPRA Foundation.

Student Request for Lodging Reimbursement for Approved Scholarship Recipients

  • The max reimbursement is $50 per student (not per night). If sharing a room, each student may request their own reimbursement.
  • Alternate lodging other than designated conference hotel is allowable if it is within reasonable mileage as determined by the WPRA Foundation Board.
  • A receipt confirming stay and payment of lodging is required to be submitted along with this form.
  • All reimbursements will be made after the event within 4 weeks after submission.
