Job Description
Ensures that Municipal property and equipment are properly maintained in a prompt and effective manner by receiving and carrying out job assignments involving the performance of manual labor often involving physically demanding work.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Family Aquatic Center, including preventative maintenance, preseason preparation, facility and grounds maintenance, safety inspections, repairs, maintaining equipment, monitoring and correcting water chemistry, and monitoring of equipment such as filters, chlorinators, analyzers, pumps, and water treatment system.
  • Maintains grounds and turf in city parks and special use areas by mowing, trimming, weeding, and grooming.
  • Prepares athletic facilities for a department or private use including the lining and grooming of fields and installation of bases and soccer goals.
  • Assists with diagnoses of turf and plant problems; apply fertilizers and pesticides under the direction of a licensed and qualified applicator.
  • Inspects, maintains, and repairs picnic tables, fences, benches, trash cans, and playground equipment, ensuring all equipment is in a safe operating condition; reports maintenance needs and safety hazards to appropriate staff.
  • Responsible for the preparation and flooding of city ice rinks; ensures proper maintenance and snow removal of ice rinks throughout the season.
  • Prepares athletic facilities for a department or private use including the lining and grooming of fields and installation of bases and soccer goals.
  • Assists in preparation for, and clean-up during and after special events.
  • Removes snow or performs de-icing operations from public streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and bike paths as needed on a 24-hour emergency basis.


  • Requires knowledge of tools and equipment used in park maintenance, street construction, and vehicle repairs; knowledge of materials, methods, techniques, and equipment used in landscaping, grounds maintenance; knowledge of the operation, safety, and efficient use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions usually acquired through a high school diploma or GED.
  • Skill in the use of repairing equipment including tire changer, hoist, and lubricating equipment.
  • Two years' experience in general public works, parks, vehicle maintenance work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred.

Special Requirements

  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake certification or ability to obtain within six months of employment. Ability to operate automatic and standard transmissions.
  • Requires a Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operation certification within one year of employment.
  • Experience in the management of a public aquatic facility.
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures used in turf management and pest control.

Salary/Salary Range
$20.23 - $23.50 Hourly
