June Legislative Update

Candidates Finalized

June brings the beginning of summer and the official beginning of the campaign season. Candidates for federal, statewide, and legislative offices had to file their nomination papers by June 1, 2022. The summer months will be filled with local campaign events and listening sessions, leading up to the August 9, 2022 primary election.

The dominating “top of the ticket” races heading into the August primary are Republican primary for who will face Governor Tony Evers. There are five candidates running in the Republican primary – most notably formerly Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and the late-entrant businessman, Tim Michels.

The other hot primary race is for the U.S. Senate on the Democratic side. There are eight Democrats running to take on U.S. Senator Ron Johnson. This list includes current Lt. Governor Mandella Barnes, current state Treasurer Sarah Godlweski and Bucks’ executive, Alex Lasry.

Pool Rule Draft Modified and On Hold for Review

Recall, over the last several months, WPRA has engaged with the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Program on the rewrite of ATCP 76 or the “Pool Rule.” The DATCP Board reviewed the draft rule on May 12. WPRA submitted comments last month in favor of the draft rule.

In anticipation of legislative pushback next session, DATCP removed Subchapter 7, Limited Use Public Pools from the draft Pool Rule, which will now go to the legislature for review. This legislative review will also not begin until next session.
